2017 Graduation Ceremony

Shiloh University held its fourth graduation on July 1st at the Shiloh Church and Conference Center. The ceremony began with a processional of the University leadership, Academic Council, and the graduates. President Christopher Reeves opened the ceremony by congratulating the graduates and greeting all those in attendance. He spoke of the commitment of the graduates, and how they have persisted and excelled in their studies through busy personal schedules and life-challenges.

The ceremony continued with worship and a student address by Daniel Oliveira, Master of Divinity graduate. Oliveira likened Shiloh University students to archeologists who “dig in the word of God” and find its treasures. He asked the attendees, “Don’t you want to be an archaeologist?” The response in the room was, “yes!”

After another song of worship, Chancellor Dr. Gary Hargrave gave the commencement address. Dr. Hargrave acknowledged the faculty, staff, students, and volunteers that have contributed to the success of Shiloh University. He spoke about the commandment in Deuteronomy 6:4–5, “Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one! You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” (NASB95) This deep love and relationship with the Lord becomes the primary focus of our lives. Dr. Hargrave encouraged the graduates to exhibit this love for God and turn the world upside down. He emphasized that beyond a conclusion of study, this day was the beginning of imparting to others what they have received.

The graduation ceremony continued with degrees being conferred and awards given. All the graduating students, and the recipients of graduate certificates, had their name and accomplishments announced with cheers and applause from family and friends. The graduation ended with a reception for the graduates, their families, faculty, and guests. The University leadership is proud of its graduates, and appreciative of all those involved in making this day possible.

Congratulations to Shiloh University’s graduating class of 2017! Our faith, prayers, and support will continue to be with you as you give to others what God has imparted to you.
